Vanguard's Wetdeck package economically converts aging Caterpillar 572E/G, 583H/K and 594G/H pipelayers' mechanical drawworks into state-of-the-art hydraulic units — a modernized machine for a fraction of the cost.

Overview
The fully engineered Wetdeck offers the same safe, reliable and easy-to-operate functionality and control as a modern Caterpillar pipelayer. The result is a modernized machine for a fraction of the cost of new. The fully tested product is ergonomically designed and safety engineered to SAE/ISO and CE standards.
The drawworks arrives as a complete, assembled modular package ready to bolt into the existing machine. Installation can be done by local Caterpillar dealers or in the customer's own facilities, with 100 % parts and service availability through Caterpillar dealers and Vanguard.

Controls
- Same intuitive configuration as Caterpillar 561M/N and 572R pipelayers.
- Low-effort controls allow simultaneous, precise positioning of the load line and boom.
- Ergonomically designed so that one hand can simultaneously control opposite functions of the hook and boom.
- Lines of sight maintained.
Safety features
- Boom and hook drawworks driven by independent hydraulic winches.
- Oil-disc brakes provide smooth operation and positive retention of boom and hook positions.
- Infinitely variable speed controls for both boom and hook.
- Emergency free-fall function on load-line control allows the operator to drop the load quickly.
- Independent manual external brake release enables load lowering if the engine or hydraulics are inoperable.
Options
- 2-speed boom motor for 572 and 583 (standard on 594).
- High-temperature cooler.
