Welding Package
CPW 125-4 Welding Package
The CPW 125-4 Series 2 Weld Deck is an outstanding choice for productivity and versatility. Continuously powered welding on Caterpillar 572E/G, 583H/K and 594G/H pipelayers, D6 dozers and other carriers.
Base machines: D6M/N, D6D/E, 571G/F, 572G/R, 71H, 72H, Challenger, or flat-deck / skid / Panther T8-T12 carriers

Overview
Utilizing substantial research with industry leaders and technicians, Vanguard Equipment, Inc. developed the CPW 125 welding package. Building on the success of this proven approach, Vanguard has updated the concept to Series 2 and incorporated a Tier 3 / Stage IIIA engine that complies with both US EPA and EU non-road mobile machinery emissions regulations.
PipeLine Machinery International (PLM) is the exclusive distributor of this state-of-the-art unit, which continues to revolutionize the quality and efficiency of on-site pipeline welding around the world.
Continuously powered welding
- Power generation is independent of the carrier, so the unit can be moved without shutting down power — a faster cycle time for welding each joint of pipe.
- A closely governed genset gives tighter frequency control, creating higher-quality welds and fewer weld repairs.
- Line-up clamps cycle much faster: the compressor delivers air at both higher volume (90 cfm / 2,548.5 L/min) and higher pressure (250 psi / 17.2 bar), with no compressor downtime while the unit moves.
- Ergonomically designed and safety engineered to CSA/UL/SAE and European Certification (CE). A CE-certified air tank is required with CE units.
Efficiency, installation and versatility
Fuel efficiency
A direct-coupled diesel engine provides zero mechanical loss to the AC generator: 20 to 44 gallons per shift, depending on welding operation.
Cooling system
Heavy-duty, three-piece radiator mounted on isolators for tough construction jobs and long life.
Installation
The welding module bolts to the carrier and connects to the carrier's fuel tank. The optional front platform module pins to the carrier using existing tractor pins. Both modules are easily removed to free the machine for other work.
Versatility
Interchangeable adapter plates allow mounting onto whichever carrier is desired via its winch mounts (D6M/N, D6D/E, 571G/F, 572G/R, 71H, 72H or Challenger units). Also available in a flat-deck arrangement for a skid, the PANTHER T8/T12 or other carriers.
Dual frequency
Standard 50/60 Hz dual-frequency operation at the flick of a switch. Optional quick-connect front receptacle panels suit any plug standard worldwide.
Air system
Improved high-pressure air system offers continuous operation, delivering 50 % more air than the previous industry standard.
Modules
Generator module
Tier 3 / EU Stage IIIA 170 hp six-cylinder engine with 24 V starting, idle control, ether starting aid, block heater, pan heater, heavy-duty radiator, primary and secondary fuel filters and a 156 kVA generator, all on rugged isolator mounts in a lockable enclosure. Rating 156 kVA @ 60 Hz / 125 kVA @ 50 Hz; voltage 120/240/480 V 60 Hz or 240/415 V 50 Hz. Arctic winter package optional.
Control distribution module
NEMA 3 control box with NEMA 4 enhancements on isolators, two lockable doors, CSA/UL/CE approved, 200 A rating. Engine digital display with trouble codes; oil pressure, water temperature, DC volt and hour-meter gauges; start/stop, ether assist and idle/run throttle; ECM monitoring; emergency shutdown. 200 A main breaker and sub-circuits, supply frequency protection, main power gauges, 5 × 230 V/50 Hz or 5 × 120 V + 2 × 230 V/60 Hz receptacles plus 5 × 480 V welding receptacle.
Air compressor module
Gardner-Denver/Champion four opposing cylinders, pressure lubricated for off-level operation, vibration mounted, with aftercooler removing up to 65 % of moisture. 90 cfm @ 250 psi with 30 hp (22 kW) motor @ 60 Hz, or 75 cfm @ 250 psi @ 50 Hz. Duty cycle 70 % at 250 psi, or continuous with synthetic oils. Hydraulic unloader for loadless starting.
Air tank module
Low-profile vertical air receiver certified to ASME code, 115 US gal (435.3 L) at 250 psi (17.2 bar), manual drip drain and safety relief valve. ASME/CE certified option.
Welder module
Four welders of the customer's choice — Miller XMT 350 or Lincoln Invertec V350-PRO 50/60 Hz inverters standard; Fronius and others available — in a lockable, vibration-mounted box with sliding shelves for servicing. Options: additional welders, service leads, Hoosier pole.
Front platform module
Welded fabrication that pins onto the machine with universal bolting patterns for optional equipment and counterweight. Options: lockable toolbox, gas-bottle racks, cranes per customer request.
Engineered hydraulic slewing canopy
A front-mounted, fully hydraulic slewing canopy is available from Vanguard Equipment and can be mounted to a D6M/N or any large dozer. A self-locking hydraulic slewing ring removes any manual effort to rotate and lock the canopy into position. The fully integrated hydraulic components and European Certification (CE) fully address the relevant safety aspects.
- See the slewing canopy in operation on the Gallery page.
